Description: Our ANTCUBE vivariums, were developed to give you the possibility to offer your ants a natural home. The lateral drillings, for connecting further basins, are now in 15cm height (drilling center). So you can fill in enough substrate to plant living plants directly into the Formicarium and even add a 1-2 cm high drainage layer. The two 10mm holes on the side, located at 2cm height (center), are for draining excess water. For example, you can use our hose transparent 10/06 mm to drain the water.
Our ANTCUBE vivariums are also perfect to give so called "Ponerinae" such as Odontomachus, Pachycondyla or other species a home where they feel comfortable. These species prefer planted and very natural formicariums, with lots of substrate. Many of these species, come from tropical regions with very high humidity.
With our suitable frames, covers, grid inserts or plugs, lamps and air conditioners, the vivarium can be flexibly adapted to your needs (or those of your animals and plants). Our covers, can be equipped over the 50mm holes with plugs or grid inserts to achieve the desired humidity, or a stronger ventilation. Furthermore, lamp sockets, fans or foggers can also be plugged directly into the 50mm holes.
Our frames are only needed when keeping ants. They secure the vivarium additionally to avoid the escape of the animals and facilitate above all the work in the open vivarium. In addition, when using a frame, the cover can be omitted if desired.
Important: If you want to keep plants and ants together, you should never use plants where you do not know whether they have come into contact with fertilizers or pesticides. Only use plants from terrarium stores or similar that are guaranteed to be completely free of pesticides and fertilizers. These can otherwise lead to the death of your ants.
Our tip: Ants can also be kept together with small creatures like springtails and isopods. These are not only a good "never-ending" food source themselves, but at the same time destroy food scraps and other waste from your ants. They also feed on molds that might form due to high humidity and enrich the soil with nutrients, which in turn allow the plants to grow healthily.
If you prefer to have only plants at home, you can set up your vivarium with only them. Helpful are in spite of everything above-mentioned microorganisms. However, it is not advisable to use certain species of isopods, since an isopod population without predators such as ants, for example, also likes to get out of hand and the plants used then quickly become an unwanted source of food.
Note: Glass is cut according to DIN 1249 with a tolerance of +/- 1mm. For extremely small ant species, additional breakout protection is essential.
